The Jet Black® Story
Where We Started
In August of 1987 our parents, who lived in Bloomington Minnesota, had a paving company sealcoat their driveway. When the job was finished, we were not at all impressed. The cracks in the driveway hadn't been filled, oil spots were bleeding through, and footprints from the sealer were on the grass and concrete sidewalk.We thought we could do it better - much better!
We started by researching the industry. We discovered that most paving companies were sealcoating asphalt as a sideline. Since sealcoating wasn't the main focus of their business, they offered marginal quality and service at best. We knew that if we intended to enter this business, we had to offer our customers something different, something better.
We set out to develop a sealcoating service devoted to delivering to our customers a first-class, clean, and professional service. We dedicated ourselves to offering quality products, applied by skilled workers, resulting in a finished product that would inspire customers to say “Great job, I’ll tell my friends”!
The Birth of Jet-Black®
So, we set our plan in motion, with customer satisfaction as our driving focus. On May 12th, 1988, we founded Jet-Black® Sealcoating & Repair.
Our
business evolved slowly, but steadily. We began
to shape the business into an enterprise which required
low overhead and low operational maintenance. As
we gained experience, we selected only the most
efficient, effective, and necessary equipment. We
also tested a wide variety of products, evaluating
their performance and only retaining those products
which met our high standards. Through this learning
process, we perfected unique techniques and developed
a superior application process. Our customers loved
our finished product and our speedy, reliable service.
Each year, we refined our marketing program to reach
new customers and retain our growing repeat customers.
Franchising
After
five years of hard work and continual success, the
word was out. Customer demand for our service was
overwhelming. We had to expand. But how? We decided
to franchise! It made perfect sense. We could teach
and guide others on the business. We had a high
demand service. We offered a low overhead business
which means higher gross profits for the owner.
We kept the start-up costs low. We could provide
all the necessary tools, equipment, and products
to do the job the right way - the “Jet-Black®
” way.
Our first Jet-Black® franchise was awarded on April 27th, 1993. We have grown steadily since. We have been recognized by a number of trade and industry sources as the leader in the industry today. We like being #1 and are committed to maintaining that position into the future. We are Jet-Black® - World's Most-Beautiful Driveways & Parking Lots!
